David Connell runs Pressure Test Scotland out of Ayr, commissioning and certifying new water mains the length of the country. It is precise, accredited work: swabbing, hydrostatic pressure testing, chlorination, UKAS lab sampling and the certificate that finally lets a main be connected. None of that came across online. The previous site had been put together on GoDaddy, and the phone number and email address were not actually linked. On a phone, which is where most of this audience is standing when they need you, a prospect had to read the number off the screen and type it in by hand. Every bit of friction there is a call that goes to somebody else instead.

The buyers are groundworks and civils contractors, developers and housebuilders, multi utility contractors and consultants. They arrive wanting to know two things quickly: are you accredited, and can you turn this round. The old site answered neither.
